History

As part of a DuPont initiative to communicate more directly with local citizens, a Community Advisory Panel (CAP) was formed at the Antioch Works plant in 1992. The panel’s initial dozen members met monthly between 1992 and 1996, focusing on initiatives like development of the Contra Costa County emergency notification system. When product manufacturing ceased and the plant was closed, the panel was disbanded, but was then revived in June 2001 as investigation and remediation efforts began to dovetail with local interest in site redevelopment. The current eight-member panel meets two or more times a year at the Oakley Site for an exchange of information about remediation progress and redevelopment plans. Meetings are open to the public. Please contact Bob Deaver at 925-757-5836 if you would like to attend the next CAP meeting.

Responsibilities/Guidelines

The Community Advisory Panel includes members with diverse backgrounds and active interests in the future of the Oakley community and the local area. Members attend meetings hosted at the DuPont Oakley site, located at 6000 Bridgehead Road. In the meetings, they are encouraged to voice their own opinions and reactions, and to represent the viewpoints and concerns of their neighbors. DuPont representatives include local members of the community, as well as DuPont corporate staff and consultants who are responsible for conducting the site remediation program.

CAP meetings are designed to be a forum for two-way communication:

  • DuPont will typically provide an update regarding the current status of remediation and redevelopment initiatives.
  • CAP members will typically listen for understanding, ask questions, and raise issues that come from their own, and their neighbors’, experiences and concerns. This information helps DuPont respond constructively, in a way that takes the public interest into account.
